LOKDEEP
LOKDEEP was established in 1992 as a podium of likeminded people who believe in the philosophy of “Helping People to Help Themselves”. The idea of forming such a society came to the minds of the group of social activists including Mr. Pradip Kumar Singh, a voluntary philanthropist and Honorable Padmashri Bhagvat Murmu. Since 1990 Mr. Pradip started the process of social transformation along with his like-minded activist friends in the most underdeveloped area of the then Bihar State – the Santhal Pargana area.
LOKDEEP means “enlightening the People”. Since its inception LOKDEEP has been instrumental in making people aware of a positive policy adoption by the state. LOKDEEP recognizes the right of all people to lead a life of dignity and self-respect in a just and equitable society, and initiates processes to improve capacities of the individuals and the communities to improve the quality of their lives. Efforts are on to empower Gram Sabhas and traditional governance systems in the villages of adivasis, dalits, minorities and the poor as a whole. LOKDEEP ensures equal representation and participation of women and men in community level decision-making and development processes.
The target community of LOKDEEP includes women, children, scheduled tribe and particularly vulnerable tribal groups, schedule caste, backward and marginalized classes.

Achievements:
- Promoted people organisations in the form of 100 SHGs, 20 farmers’ clubs and jagruk samities,
- Strengthened the Self-Governance System/ PRI for the active participation of marginalized members of civil society for equitable development.
- Enhanced knowledge attitude and developed skills of the people for positive change in the society based on democratic principles.
- Promoted livelihood option through developing the skills, knowledge and technology in farm & non farm Sector
- Conserved traditional values for sustainable development of agriculture and optimum utilization of locally available natural resources
- Promoted traditional and scientific system of treatment by encouraging preventive health care and to generated awareness about health, hygiene and water and sanitation.
- Liaison and converge with government and other agencies to undertake the activities leading to sustainable development.
LOKDEEP has been active in advocacy at local and district levels. The advocacy so far covered Mahatma Gandhi national Rural Employment Guarantee Act, Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005 and Right to Education Act 2009. As part of its dissemination and advocacy initiatives LOKDEEP has produced folders on RTI in Hindi, booklets on MGNREGA and pictorial booklets on PWDVA for illiterate women.
As part of its study and field research initiatives, LOKDEEP has undertaken Study on Rural Socio economic Opportunity in the local area, Study on Reproductive child health and Piloting and Research on SRI technique for Paddy Production.
LOKDEEP has partnered and received support from a large number of government and private philanthropies. The government agencies include Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (Government of India – GoI), Ministry of Human Resource Development (GoI), Ministry of Environment and Forests (GoI), Department of Tribal Welfare (Government of Jharkhand – GoJ), Jharkhand Women’s Development Society, NABARD Ranchi, and the local District Rural Development Agency. The philanthropies include KKS Germany, IGSSS Germany, ICCO Canada, PACS (DFID), ICA USA, ANDHERI HILFE Germany, CCF USA and FVTRS Bangalore.
LOKDEEP is registered under the Societies Registration Acts of Bihar and Jharkhand, Section 12A of Income Tax Act and the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act.
